If you've seen the BBC's Your Garden Made Perfect, you've probably been wowed by some great garden design and also some beautiful plants. Not all gardens require a full makeover though and sometimes just redesigning the planting can be enough for that same wow factor.
When would you need the planting design service?
You may be wondering what the difference is between Garden Design and Planting Design. Put simply, garden design will take into account all aspects of your garden, including hard landscaping (patios, decks, walls etc) and the overall layout whereas planting design is just about the plants, how they work together and their suitability to your garden.
Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul. Luther Burbank
If you already have a nice seating area and are happy with the layout of your garden, refreshing the planting may be all you need to give that wow factor. Alternatively, you may have planted things that have died or require too high maintenance. Choosing the right plants for you and your garden is important and a planting designer can make those choices for you.
There are so many things to consider when choosing plants for your garden:
How much sun/shade does it get?
What type of soil do you have and how acidic is it?
How much space do you have and how big will the plants grow?
Do you want interest all year round from colours and textures?
Which plants are child and pet friendly?
How much time do you have to maintain the plants?
What kind of look do you want - modern, cottage garden, Japanese...?
The list goes on...
A planting designer will consider all these aspects and choose the right plants for your garden.
How does the Planting Design service work?
An initial visit to your garden to measure the beds/borders that are to be redesigned. Soil samples will be taken and an evaluation of the climatic conditions.
You will provide an idea of the style that you like as well as your budget and requirements.
A mood board and sketches will be produced to give you an idea of the design.
A planting plan will be provided showing where each plant is to be planted as well as the full botanical name.
The plants will be ordered for you.
A planting plan showing where each plant is to go and the full name.
