Autumn, with its crisp air and vibrant colours, is not only a beautiful season but also an ideal time to transform your garden. Here's why:
1. Optimal planting time:
Plants thrive when planted in autumn, compared to the hot summer days. The cooler temperatures and higher rainfall create ideal conditions for root development before winter kicks in and they will be ready to break into flower come the spring/summer. Weeds tend to be less vigorous in autumn, making it easier to remove them and create a fresh new garden. Shrubs and trees can be purchased as "bare root" specimens and are therefore, cheaper. Autumn is also the ideal time to plant spring flowering bulbs.
2. Time to Plan:
Planning your garden in autumn provides an opportunity to design and build your garden ready to enjoy the following spring and summer. The design process is best not to be rushed as it can take time to think about the best use of the space and the perfect materials to use. There will be time to visit paving suppliers with me to see materials in person and to mull over different design ideas.
3. Indoor Time:
Most people are not spending much time in their garden in autumn/winter and so it's an ideal time for the messy work of landscaping to be done. Who wants to be having a family BBQ whilst a mini digger heaves away next to you?!
